The small apartment at the edge of the Frankfurt forest breathes concentration. On various tables and consoles the most elegant products of nature are on display: shells, sea urchins and twigs are decorated with crystals and glass beads.
Her sense of the decorative, Stephanie Thonet owes her american mother, her love of foreign cultures comes from her father, who as a businessman moved his family to Turkey, Austria, America and Holland. For her creations she scrounges the treasures of the world, from land and from sea. Her special interests are the asian and african decorative elements, like wood, ivory, coral and the magnificence of chinese jade-knots and dragons.
From all of this the designer developes her own aesthetics. She mixes ethnic elements with her sure sense of colour and proportion and with the courage to be opulent. she finds that jewelry can never be too expressive. "I wish women were more inclined to be glamorous and expressive - a simple dress but with it a big eye-catcher would be enough for an exciting entrance anywhere!". Her greatest ideal, she admits, is Coco Chanel." It's simply wonderful the way she mixed her jewelry and how she wore it in the daytime!".
In her mixing of elements Stephanie Thonet could easily match the style
legend, as proven by her unique necklaces and bracelets. Eccentrics
are not a matter of quantity, but how they are put together. This is
best illustrated by her coral creations." Sometimes I do not have
very much material left to work with and strangely enough, the results
are often some of my most beautiful pieces."
